Early Spring 2016

It’s early Spring and I’m itching to make plans for the garden this year!

Sara, Violet and I have been holding on to hope by buying fresh tulips with most grocery shopping trips. They bring such a burst of colour and a promise of the season to come after long winter has outstayed it’s welcome.

I love to put these flopsy tulip blooms in good old fashioned milk glass vases (and I have a few to choose from!). The look is so pure and innocent I think. Here they are in our front window sill.

This year I hope to get going early with the garden. However it seems I always get busy with work in the spring and with our new Pop Up Shop Perry’s Corners 1855 and other projects on the go, its easy for projects at home to fall behind. I’m gathering lots of inspiration from my all-time-favourite gardening book – Martha Stewart’s Gardening Month By Month from the early 1990’s.

I’ve read it cover to cover several times and always come away itching to plant bulbs, perennials and fresh vegetables. I also love to pour over the end papers attached to the front and back covers. It shows a plan of Martha’s Turkey Hill garden and helps me dream big and think of paths, focal points and structure.

The thing that’s got me most excited is that we’ve commissioned a local landscaper to install an antique brick path in early spring. But more on that to come…Happy Spring everyone!
