February 20, 2018Decorating with Small Vignettes

When decorating our homes, it is usually the bigger ticket items like sofas, dining tables and chairs that get the most attention. However, a house that feels like a well-decorated, welcoming home, is often made up of smaller, intentional vignettes. Personalized pieces that have been collected over time and vintage accessories are a wonderful way to bring life and character to our living spaces.
Above is a vignette we recently created for a client, that was housed in the homeowner’s study. She already owned the gorgeous oil painting, so we used that as our inspiration. A collection of blue and white ginger jars (both old and new) pull the blue from the painting, and add a pop of subtle pattern and colour to the vintage, mahogany display case. The painting by itself would be pretty, but the collection of jars helped to complete the space, while making a larger impact.
Keeping like with like and adding character through vintage pieces will help you create decorative vignettes throughout your own home.
We have had countless clients come to us seeking direction for the curved alcove their staircase creates. Above is a great example of utilizing this otherwise awkward space, by creating an intentional vignette. This chippy, vintage table was the perfect size for the small area, and the height of the faux lilacs fills out the space.
Are there any unused areas of your home that can be made into intentional decorative vignettes? We would love to know in the comments below!
